Closing speeches expected in trial of man accused of violent sex attacks
Summary
The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court will hear closing speeches in the trial of Slawomir Gierlowski, a 33‑year‑old man from Drimnagh, who is accused of violent sexual attacks on three women between 2011 and 2016. Gierlowski denies all nine charges, which include false imprisonment, sexual assault and assault. The prosecution, led by Roisin Lacey SC, has presented evidence from the three alleged victims. One victim recounted an attack on 16 May 2016 when Gierlowski, armed with a hunting knife, threatened her on Knockmeenagh Lane and she forced the knife to cut her fingers. Another victim described an assault on 3 September 2015 in Clondalkin, where Gierlowski used a leather belt and duct tape before sexually assaulting her. The third victim reported being punched and sexually assaulted on 11 September 2011 in Clondalkin. Judge Pauline Codd informed the jury that closing speeches would be delivered next Tuesday, followed by a charge on Wednesday and the start of deliberations.
