Sex attack accused's fingerprints found on duct tape, trial hears

Summary

During the trial of Slawomir Gierlowski, 33, the court heard that his fingerprints were found on duct tape left at a 2016 crime scene in Knockmeenagh Lane. Detective Garda Conor Kiely explained that he had developed three marks from the grey masking tape and matched two of them to Gierlowski's left forefinger and right ring finger using the national database. Gierlowski denies the charges of false imprisonment, sexual assault and assault of three women in 2011, 2015 and 2016. He has pleaded not guilty to nine charges. The trial also heard testimony from the three alleged victims: one was attacked with a hunting knife in May 2016, another was strangled and taped in September 2015, and the third was punched and assaulted in September 2011. The case is before Judge Pauline Codd and an eleven‑man jury.
