Teen dad sentenced to five years over €128k drugs bust
Summary
Ross Thompson, a 19‑year‑old father from Ballymun, was sentenced to five years in jail for possessing heroin worth €128,000 and €2,000 in cash. The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Martin Nolan, suspended the final two and a half years of the sentence, citing Thompson's youth and the court's hope for reform. Thompson admitted to holding the drugs because of a €12,500 debt and had a history of 43 prior convictions, all dealt with by the Children's Court. Gardaí seized over 900 g of heroin and the cash during a search of Thompson's home a year earlier. Thompson claimed he did not know the contents of the bags or the owner of the cash. He is required to maintain good behaviour, undergo psychological counselling, and be supervised by Probation Services for 18 months after release. Ross Thompson pleaded guilty.
