Hutch lawyers ask for garda emails
Summary
Patrick Hutch, aged 25, is pleading not guilty to the murder of David Byrne, aged 34, at the Regency Hotel on 5 February 2016. Hutch is also accused of possessing three AK‑47 assault rifles. The prosecution alleges Hutch was the man dressed as a woman who, along with others in tactical‑style garda uniforms and armed with handguns and assault rifles, raided the hotel during a boxing weigh‑in. The court heard that Hutch did not shoot Byrne but was part of a shared intention to commit the offence. Defence counsel Michael O'Higgins SC requested disclosure of emails between four gardai involved in the investigation. The request was delayed because the emails number in the thousands and would need to be downloaded and printed.
