"Talented" former GAA footballer jailed for having €400k in ecstasy pills

Summary

In 2013 a Dublin man, Ross Archibold, 40, was found with more than €400,000 worth of ecstasy pills in the boot of a car near his home in Snowdrop Walk, Darndale. Gardaí spotted him acting suspiciously beside the vehicle and, after he jumped a garden fence, searched the boot and discovered four bags containing over 40,000 MDMA tablets. The drugs had a street value of €403,000. Archibold was also found to have receipts from Lifestyle Sports in Swords and an Applegreen service station on the M1, and CCTV footage showed him buying a sports bag at Lifestyle Sports and being a passenger in the car that carried the drugs. He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing MDMA for sale or supply at Buttercup Park on 12 April 2013, entered an early guilty plea, was re‑charged and re‑entered a guilty plea in 2016. He has 18 previous convictions, mainly for minor offences.
