Summary

The Special Criminal Court heard surveillance evidence in the ongoing trial of Edward O'Brien, David Nooney, Seán Hannaway, Kevin Hannaway, and Eva Shannon. All five defendants pleaded not guilty to charges relating to membership of or assisting an unlawful organisation, namely the Irish Republican Army (IRA), on August 7th and 8th, 2015. Detective Garda BK testified that he observed Mr. Nooney and Mr. O'Brien entering and leaving a house in Riverwood Park, Castleknock, Dublin 15, where the prosecution alleges IRA interviews were conducted. Photographs taken by the detective were shown to the judges. Another detective, Detective Garda Y, stated he observed Mr. Nooney meeting two men at a McDonald's in Blanchardstown before they departed in his car. Prosecution counsel Tara Burns SC indicated that covert listening device evidence would be presented regarding the interviews. The trial is currently before Justice Isobel Kennedy, Justice Robert Haughton, and Judge Gerard Griffin. The matter was adjourned and continues tomorrow.
