Summary

The Special Criminal Court viewed CCTV footage of the fatal shooting of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel, Dublin, on 5 February 2016. The footage shows men in Emergency Response Unit (ERU) gear, including a man in a flat cap and a man in a wig, exiting a silver van and entering the hotel via the laundry room. Three men, referred to as "Tacs 1, 2 and 3," wearing tactical‑style Garda uniforms and helmets, carried assault rifles and entered the lobby. "Tac 1" shot Byrne, who was seen crawling toward the reception. "Tac 2" later pointed a rifle at a BBC journalist and shot Byrne again before moving toward the laundry‑room door. Witnesses, including journalists and hotel staff, described the scene as chaotic, with gunfire and men shouting "Get down, get fucking down." The trial continues before Mr Justice Tony Hunt, Judge Patricia Ryan and Judge Ann Ryan.
