Robber on bail when he took part in vicious attack on shopkeeper

Summary

A 23‑year‑old man, Daryl McKeon, was on bail when he participated in a raid on Tansey's newsagents in Finglas on 18 March. McKeon and a second raider entered the shop with their heads and faces covered. The victim, Kevin Tansey, tried to leave but McKeon blocked the door and held him. The second raider struck Tansey's head three times with a hammer, causing severe brain injury and fractures. CCTV footage showed Tansey collapsing and bleeding, while McKeon attempted to open the cash register. The raiders fled in a car. McKeon's fingerprints linked him to the assault; the other raider remains under investigation. Tansey suffered a seizure, entered a comatose state, and his condition later deteriorated, affecting his mood and behaviour. McKeon, who had 12 prior convictions, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and assault causing serious harm. He was remanded in custody pending sentencing on 5 February.
