Summary

Patrick Kennedy, aged 69, will be sentenced by the Special Criminal Court later this month. He pleaded guilty in October to unlawful possession of a .455 Colt "New Service" revolver and a .455 Webley Mark 6 revolver (serial 324736) found on James Street, Dublin 8, on 14 September 2013. Kennedy acted as a courier for two guns during a planned transfer of firearms between IRA members. Garda surveillance captured Kennedy handing a beige canvas bag with an LV logo to co‑accused Gary Yeung, who had previously been jailed for five years with three suspended for possession of firearms. Kennedy later entered a pub, placed the bag at his feet, and Gardaí searched it, discovering the two firearms. A ballistics report noted one gun was rusted but functional, the other non‑working. Kennedy has three prior convictions, the latest being an assault in 1978. He remains on bail until 22 January, when sentencing will occur.
