Romanian man who used fake statements to get truck loan is jailed

Summary

Cornelius Kaiser, a 40‑year‑old father of three from Collegefort, Castleknock, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Court to one count of deception for using falsified bank statements to obtain a €38,720 truck loan in March 2008. He was arrested in December 2008, fled the country, and was returned to Ireland in May 2024 on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the PSNI. Judge Martin Nolan described the offence as a "devious crime" and noted Kaiser's use of intellect and deviousness to secure the loan. The false statements were discovered during a Garda search of his sister's house in Blanchardstown, where a Hungarian passport in the name Emmanuel Martin was also found. Kaiser has seven prior convictions, including four concealment offences in Romania, for which he received a three‑year sentence. He was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment, back‑dated to 28 May 2024, when he entered custody.
