Teenage girl tells trial of phone calls from murder accused
Summary
During a murder trial, a 15‑year‑old girl, who cannot be named, gave evidence by video link that the accused, Graham McEvoy, phoned her while Paul "Paulie" Curran lay dead in hospital. She said McEvoy called earlier that day asking where Curran was and mentioned a "stripe down his face" and that he had "got it over Paulie." In a later call he told her he had arranged to meet Curran at the flats. The girl walked to the flats, where she was told by "kids" that Paulie had been stabbed. She then went to the hospital; McEvoy called again asking what had happened to Paul. She told him he was dead, and he shouted "for fuck sake." McEvoy pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. The trial, presided over by Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy, continues tomorrow with a jury of twelve.
