Romanian jailed over ATM scam carried out with "military precision"

Costel Tudor, 43, from Bucharest, was jailed for his role in an ATM scam that involved the theft of bank cards with "military precision." The scam took place at a Bank of Ireland ATM in Ranelagh, Dublin, on 17 October 2015. Tudor, together with two women, distracted a customer by placing a €20 note on the ground and tapping him on the shoulder. While the victim was momentarily distracted, Tudor switched the victim's card with another. Garda Joseph O'Callaghan presented CCTV footage to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, showing the group's actions and Tudor's subsequent attempt to withdraw cash, which failed. Tudor pleaded guilty to dishonestly taking the card and attempting to withdraw cash. He also admitted taking cash from a bank account on three occasions in May 2017, including a case where a woman's card was stolen from her purse on Harcourt Street, resulting in €845 fraudulently withdrawn.
