Addict jailed over "drive-by" robbery

Summary

A Dublin drug addict, Glen Egan, aged 34, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for his role in a Christmas Eve drive‑by robbery and several other offences. CCTV footage showed Egan and a co‑accused driving up in a Ford Fiesta while a male victim withdrew cash from an ATM. The co‑accused removed a car jack from the boot and placed it behind the victim's back as Egan threatened him. Garda Cormac O'Donnell reported that the pair searched the victim's pockets when he fell, taking coins and a set of car keys, then drove away. They returned moments later demanding €20 for the keys, which the victim refused to pay. Egan pleaded guilty to robbing Mercedes Benz car keys and coins at Old Stillorgan Road, €220 cash from Vape Island, and €10 from Spar, James's Street. He has 75 prior convictions.
