Summary
Gareth White, 29, of Harcourt Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five counts of using a false instrument to secure loans from various credit unions in 2016, and to using a false instrument to purchase seven phones on behalf of a non‑existent business from Three Ireland on 13 August 2015. Garda Noel Whelan explained that the fraud was discovered when a credit union manager noticed that the address on the AIB bank statement White supplied did not exist. White also used forged bank statements to apply for loans at Phibsborough Credit Union, Larkfield Credit Union in Santry, Whitehall Credit Union and Core Credit Union in Dalkey. He claimed the loans were to buy a wheelchair for his disabled daughter and a headstone for his mother's grave, but the court heard they were actually needed to pay gambling debts. €908 was still owed to Rathfarnham and Dalkey Credit Unions.
