Main prosecution witness in Roy Collins murder trial admits mistake

Summary

In the Roy Collins murder trial, the main prosecution witness, Gareth Collins, admitted he had mistakenly implicated Wayne Dundon in the 2002 murder of bouncer Brian Fitzgerald, a crime Dundon could not have committed because he was in prison that night. Collins explained that he had hidden under a bed when Dundon called for him, but he had actually run upstairs and hidden under a bed when he saw a car arrive that night, and his mother answered the door. Collins had previously testified that Dundon offered him €20,000 to take part in the 2009 murder of Roy Collins, which Dundon directed from prison, with Nathan Killeen as getaway driver and James Dillon as gunman. The trial continues before three judges presided over by Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley. Roy Collins pleaded not guilty.
