Summary

In the Special Criminal Court, two Limerick men, Wayne Dundon (36) and Nathan Killeen (24), pleaded not guilty to the murder of businessman Roy Collins, 35, on 9 April 2009. Collins was shot once in the chest by gunman James Dillon while at Coin Castle Amusements. Dundon allegedly directed the murder from Wheatfield Prison, Killeen was the getaway driver, and Dillon fired the shot. A prison officer testified that Dundon and his cousin, Anthony 'Noddy' McCarthy, were non‑working members of a paint party at Wheatfield Prison, spending more than four hours daily in a cell chatting with each other while other inmates worked or were locked in their cells. The court heard that this arrangement was unusual and that Dundon had previously been sentenced to 10 years for threatening to kill Ryan Lee. The trial is before three judges presided by Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley.
