Murder trial shown CCTV footage
Summary
In the Limerick murder trial, CCTV footage captured the area around the time 43‑year‑old Gerard McMahon was stabbed to death on 18 January 2012. The footage shows two individuals leaving the home of the accused men, Seán Flanagan (28) and Paul Colbert (46), shortly after 12.30 am, moving toward McMahon's cousin's house on Lenihan Avenue. A second camera later records the same two people running, then walking back in the opposite direction, and finally entering the accused men's home. The prosecution alleges that Flanagan and Colbert acted in joint enterprise to attack McMahon, who died of stab wounds to his back and head, with fatal injuries to his lung, liver and kidney. The trial, presided over by Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan, continues before a jury of eight women and four men. Ian Flanagan (24), Seán's brother, pleaded not guilty to two counts of assisting an offender for removing a CCTV recording device from the house.
