Cyclist robbed of bike at knifepoint
Summary
Ian McCluskey, aged 20, pleaded guilty to a knifepoint robbery at the Seventh Lock on the Royal Canal, Dublin, on 31 July 2016. While Fiach McHale was cycling, McCluskey approached, demanded the time, and when McHale produced his mobile phone, McCluskey brandished a Stanley "box‑cutter" knife, ordering him to dismount and run. McCluskey then stole the victim's mobile phone and a second phone in the bike's panniers, and later was arrested by gardaí. He admitted the theft, expressed remorse, and the victim's impact statement noted the threat and the victim's fear. Sentencing is scheduled for 19 December.
