Summary

Noel Reddington, aged 30, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for a series of armed robberies, some committed while he was on bail. He pleaded guilty to robbery of cash from a bookmakers in Rialto on 17 November 2016, possession of a semi‑automatic handgun during that robbery, robbery of a Spar on Errigal Road in March, and robbery of a Gala the day before. In the Spar incident he was armed with a large knife and shouted, "it's a robbery, give me the money"; the shopkeeper Mark Cahill sprayed an aerosol can at him, after which Reddington fled. Gardaí used Cahill's description to arrest him later that day. Reddington had previously served a sentence for robbery offences and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the March incidents.
