Roy Collins died of single gunshot wound, murder trial hears

Summary

In a Special Criminal Court murder trial, Limerick businessman Roy Collins, aged 35, died from a single gunshot wound to his chest, liver, aorta and inferior vena cava on 9 April 2009 at Coin Castle Amusements. The court heard medical evidence that Collins was at work around noon when a gunman fired a single shot, after which paramedic Damien Gaumont found him on all fours, breathing poorly, and transported him to University Hospital, Limerick. Dr Cathal O'Donnell confirmed Collins was conscious upon arrival but could not be revived, pronouncing him dead at 12:55. State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy's post‑mortem report identified the bullet's entry and exit points and the organs damaged.
