Fingerprints on abusive material did not match garda accused's, trial hears
Summary
The trial of Garda Eve Doherty, aged 49, for alleged harassment of State solicitor Elizabeth Howlin, has shown that none of the fingerprints found on abusive material matched Doherty's prints. Doherty denies harassing Howlin between September 2011 and March 2013 and denies making false statements in March 2013 that Howlin was perverting the course of justice. Howlin, a directing officer with the DPP, received letters and emails calling her a "corrupt bitch" and "incompetent useless hobbit", and falsely claiming she was a political appointee who would "pull" files. Detective Garda Conor Kiely presented evidence that fingerprints on four posters, a letter to the DPP, a letter to Howlin's home and a letter to the DPP's office did not match Doherty's prints.
