Woman disguised herself as man in "bizarre" €10k robbery

Summary

Ciara McGlynn, 43, of Elmwood, Clonsilla, pleaded guilty to robbing €10,700 from a health shop in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre on 29 February 2015. She disguised herself as a young man, wearing a hoodie and hat, and cycled up to the store manager, who was leaving the centre with the takings in a bag. McGlynn seized the bag and was caught by Gardaí on the scene. She has significant psychiatric issues, including post‑natal depression and post‑traumatic stress disorder, and was suffering financial hardship at the time. Judge Karen O'Connor, describing the crime as "bizarre" and "acting out of character", imposed an 18‑month suspended sentence, noting McGlynn's remorse and unlikely future court appearances.
