Summary

In a non‑jury court in Limerick, the murder trial of Wayne Dundon (36) and Nathan Killeen (24) for the killing of 35‑year‑old businessman Roy Collins at Coin Castle Amusements on 9 April 2009 has entered a "trial within a trial" to decide whether certain evidence is admissible. Collins was shot in the chest by a single gunman while at work; he was conscious for a short time but died. Prosecutor Michael O'Higgins SC argued that Dundon directed the murder from prison, Killeen was the getaway driver, and James Dillon was the gunman. Killeen's counsel, Giollaiosa O Lideadha SC, challenged the admissibility of evidence from searches, entries to properties, the legality of Killeen's arrest and detention, and material arising from that detention. The court heard legal submissions from both sides and, after the prosecution declined to call further evidence on the issue, Judge Iseult O'Malley said the decision would be reserved overnight. Wayne Dundon pleaded not guilty. Nathan Killeen pleaded not guilty. Roy Collins pleaded not guilty.
