Accused told gardai he didn't threaten anyone

Summary

Larry McCarthy Jnr, 37, is on trial before the Special Criminal Court for threatening to kill Noel Moore and to burn Moore's house, Windsor House, Limerick, on 28 July 2015. McCarthy pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor Diana Stuart BL argued that the threats stemmed from family disputes, noting that McCarthy's sister is married to Moore's son. Moore, 74, testified that he saw McCarthy, described as red‑haired, running across his garden and that McCarthy shouted, "I'm going to fucking shoot you" and "I'm going to get my buddies to burn your house to the ground." Moore said he believed McCarthy could carry out the threat. Defence counsel Barry White SC cross‑examined Moore, challenging the claim that McCarthy had threatened to shoot him, but Moore maintained the threat. Garda Niall Fitzgerald reported seeing Moore shaking and distressed on the day.
