Bicycle thief is jailed

Summary

Jonathan Dunne, a 27‑year‑old father of four, was convicted of stealing two bicycles and three wheels from a locked bike shed at Gasworks Apartments in Ringsend. CCTV footage showed him carrying bolt cutters and cutting a large hole in the wire cage that secured the shed. The stolen bikes were worth €3,450 and the damage to the shed €1,608. Dunne pleaded guilty to two charges of theft and criminal damage on 28 July 2016. He had 76 prior convictions, including burglary and handling stolen property. Judge Karen O'Connor, noting his pre‑meditated plan and drug addiction, sentenced him to two years' imprisonment, taking into account his cooperation and guilty plea.
