Jury selected for trial of Jobstown water charge protestors
Summary
A jury of five women and seven men was selected after a three‑and‑a‑half‑hour process that called over 100 potential jurors. The jury will hear the trial of Solidarity TD Paul Murphy (34) and six other men, including South Dublin councillors Kieran Mahon (39) and Michael Murphy (53), on charges of falsely imprisoning former Tánaiste Joan Burton and Karen O'Connell at Fortunestown Road, Jobstown, Tallaght on 15 November 2014. All defendants have entered not‑guilty pleas. Judge Melanie Greally informed the panel that the case is expected to last six weeks and that the trial will begin at 2 p.m. tomorrow. She set strict criteria for juror eligibility, excluding those with personal connections to the parties, substantial knowledge of the events, employment with Irish Water or related agencies, or strong public positions on water charges.
