German student gives evidence of night he and friend were stabbed
Summary
A German student, Robert Rinker, survived a stabbing that killed his friend Thomas Heinrich and testified in the murder trial of two Dublin youths. Rinker, from Stuttgart, met Heinrich on his first day at Griffith College and they were studying in Dublin. On 1 December 2012, after a night out, Rinker and another German student went to Heinrich's apartment. Rinker describes hearing two boys on the street and later seeing a taller boy with a knife. He says he tried to scare the boys with two knives, but they attacked him. Rinker claims he fought the taller boy, dragged him outside, and that Heinrich was left inside. Both were taken to hospital; Heinrich died. Rinker testified that the accused, Wesley Kelly, was the taller boy and that Kelly had no knife when he punched Rinker. The trial is before Mr Justice Barry White with a jury of twelve. Wesley Kelly pleaded not guilty.
