Illegal immigrant jailed for one year for sexual assault of woman in her own home
Summary
An Egyptian man, Mohamed Ahmed, aged 31, was sentenced by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one year in prison for sexually assaulting a young woman in her Dublin home on 19 September 2016. Ahmed had been living in Ireland illegally since 2014. He pleaded guilty after the victim, who asked to remain unnamed, described how he pinned her to the ground, removed his trousers, and digitally penetrated her. The victim had been receiving counselling since the incident and could not walk home alone at night. The court noted the distress caused by the assault and Ahmed's lack of prior convictions. He was sentenced to 18 months with the final six months suspended and was required to register as a sex offender. The sentence was imposed by Judge Melanie Greally.
