Grandad returned to burgle restaurant where he'd applied for job

Summary

James Byrne, 45, was heard in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after he had applied for a job at a fast‑food restaurant and then returned to burgle the premises. Byrne left the restaurant after staff mentioned a possible driving position, but shortly thereafter he stole a bag of coins worth €95 from a back‑office area. He has 57 prior convictions and is currently serving a two‑year sentence for a burglary committed in November 2016. Byrne pleaded guilty to the burglary at BASE Pizza in Terenure on 19 June 2016. Garda James Duffy presented CCTV footage and Byrne's full admissions. The judge adjourned sentencing to 26 May 2017 to allow a probation report to be prepared.
