Anna Finnegan's brother was stabbed in the head, murder trial hears
Summary
During the murder trial of Vesel Jahiri, the court heard that Anna Finnegan's brother, Karl Finnegan, was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital on 21 September 2012 with stab wounds to his chest and right temple. Dr Mayilone Arumuganasy, a consultant surgeon, testified that the chest wound caused a collapsed lung and that a CT scan revealed a skull fracture and damage to the eye orbit. Karl Finnegan had previously testified that he blacked out and woke with stab wounds after Mr Jahiri attacked him with a knife. Dr Arumuganasy explained that the knife had to penetrate the chest wall to collapse the lung, but could not determine the force used. The prosecution alleged that Mr Jahiri, who had been in a relationship with Anna for about ten years, stabbed her to death after a period of conflict. The trial is proceeding before Mr Justice Paul Coffey and a jury of nine men and two women. Vesel Jahiri pleaded not guilty. Anna Finnegan pleaded not guilty.
