"Underhand" man stole €6k from friend who let him stay in her home
Summary
Ionel Saisuc, aged 37, was sentenced to nine months in jail for stealing €6,000 in cash from his friend Georgina Valcu, who had let him stay in her Dublin home after his girlfriend had kicked him out. The theft occurred on 12 October 2015 when Valcu withdrew the money from her account to open a new one. Saisuc failed to return to work and Valcu discovered the money missing when she returned home. He later apologized and promised repayment, but never did. Judge Martin Nolan described the crime as "particularly underhand" and imposed a two‑year sentence, suspending the final 15 months on conditions including repayment. Saisuc had nine prior convictions, including theft and aggravated theft. He had €400 in court to offer to Valcu, but the judge refused to adjourn the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Grainne O'Neill BL, with defence counsel Keith Spencer BL representing Saisuc. Ionel Saisuc pleaded guilty.
