Summary

During the trial of Vesel Jahiri at the Central Criminal Court, Dr Hilary Clarke of Forensic Science Ireland presented DNA evidence linking Anna Finnegan to a blood‑stained black‑handled kitchen knife. The knife was voluntarily handed over by Jahiri, aged 35, at Cabra Garda Station the night after the alleged attack on Anna Finnegan, aged 25, at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, on 21 September 2012. Clarke swabbed two areas of light blood on the knife's tip and edge, and both DNA profiles matched Anna Finnegan's. She also reported that DNA from blood on a Ford Focus car seat, from the driveway of a neighbouring house, and from the sleeves of Jahiri's jacket and jeans matched Karl Finnegan, who was also assaulted by Jahiri on the same night. The evidence was given before Mr Justice Paul Coffey and a jury of nine men and two women. The trial continues. Vesel Jahiri pleaded not guilty.
