Summary

Jonathan McSherry, 35, a former soldier, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for threatening to kill Nicola Nugent and her partner Barry Horan. He had already been serving a term for a sustained assault on Nugent, which left her with fractures to her eyes, face and skull. On 19 March 2013, McSherry confronted Nugent and Horan in the car park of The Belgard Inn, Tallaght, where he ran at their car, punched and kicked it, and shouted threats, including "I'm going to kill you." He was found guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The judge suspended the last two years of the sentence on the condition that he keep the peace, attend anger‑management and addiction treatment, and refrain from contact with the victim. McSherry's prior convictions and his engagement in treatment were noted in the sentencing. The court also referenced his earlier 2015 assault, for which he had received a suspended sentence.
