Richard Dekker, aged 30, was found guilty of murdering 17‑year‑old Daniel McAnaspie, who was in the care of the HSE when he was killed. The boy's body was discovered on 13 May 2010 in a drainage ditch in Rathfeigh, Co Meath, after a search that began when he was reported missing. Dekker was convicted by a unanimous jury verdict at the Central Criminal Court on 26 February 2010, following a week‑long trial and more than eight hours of deliberation. The conviction was the first under the Criminal Justice Procedure Act 2010, which allowed the State to retry Dekker after his 2013 acquittal. He faces a mandatory life sentence. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 3 April 2016. The case involved allegations that Dekker lured Daniel to Tolka Valley Park, where Trevor Noone stabbed him with garden shears. Noone pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month.
