In a murder trial held on 1 March 2017, Richard Dekker, aged 30, pleaded not guilty to the February 2010 stabbing death of 17‑year‑old Daniel McAnaspie at Tolka Valley Park, Blanchardstown. Dekker was interviewed by Garda Patrick McDonagh on 24 and 25 May 2010, during which he initially denied any knowledge of the killing. He later claimed that Trevor Noone, who had a garden shears blade, stabbed McAnaspie after a confrontation. Dekker said he begged Noone to stop and that McAnaspie pleaded for his life as he fell toward the river. Dekker admitted he feared Noone might use the blade on him. Forensic evidence from Dr David Casey and Dr Khalid Jaber identified multiple stab cuts on McAnaspie's clothing and body, consistent with a garden shears blade. The trial continued the following day before Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury of twelve.
