Man who was teen when he sexually abused nephew is jailed for 10 years

A Dublin man, who was 16 when he began sexually abusing his eight‑year‑old nephew, was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment by the Central Criminal Court. The victim described the uncle's behaviour as "disgusting" and said he was forced to speak about it in front of women. The judge, Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy, noted the "appalling regularity" of the abuse and the vulnerability of the child, and imposed concurrent sentences totalling ten years, with a three‑year post‑release supervision order. The accused had been living with the victim's family and had denied the allegations when interviewed by Gardaí. The unnamed accused was convicted.
