Summary
In a murder trial, 38‑year‑old Michal Rejmer died from haemorrhaging caused by stab wounds to his arms. The post‑mortem, conducted by Chief State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy on 9 January 2016, found a large gaping wound on his upper right arm and a 20‑cm track wound on his left arm, both inflicted by a 20‑cm knife. Cassidy noted additional puncture wounds to his back and thigh, defensive injuries on his left hand, and a grazing injury to the left side of his face with internal skull bleeding. No drugs or alcohol were detected. She concluded that the death resulted from bleeding, though the injuries alone would not have caused rapid death; survival for minutes to an hour was possible. The accused, 35‑year‑old Monika Matracka, pleaded not guilty, claiming self‑defence, and the case is before a jury.
