Evidence of clean-up at house, forensic scientist tells murder trial
Summary
During a murder trial, a forensic scientist testified that blood from the deceased, Michal Rejmer, was found throughout the house at The Pines, Briarfield, Castletroy, and that a clean‑up had taken place. The forensic evidence included DNA profiles from blood on the wall of the stairs, the bedroom, the banister, the hallway and the kitchen, all matching Rejmer, and a profile from a sample on the wall of the stairs matching the accused, Monika Matracka. The scientist noted that the blood‑staining pattern suggested Rejmer had bled upstairs and then moved downstairs. She also examined a knife, finding no blood or DNA on the blade, and reported no drag marks in the house. The prosecution presented the case to a jury, with the defence claiming self‑defence. The trial is before Mr Justice Paul Butler and a twelve‑person jury. Monika Matracka pleaded not guilty.
