Jail for father caught with €230k in drugs during garda raid

Summary

Joseph Finnegan, aged 33, was jailed for five years after Gardaí discovered almost €230,000 worth of drugs in his home on Landen Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin. While he was with his two‑year‑old daughter, officers entered the house and directed him to a bedroom wardrobe and the attic. There they found €212,000 of heroin in the attic and €15,211 of cocaine in the wardrobe, along with other drug paraphernalia. Finnegan pleaded guilty at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 March 2016 to possession of 1.5 kg of heroin and 217 g of cocaine for sale or supply. He had no prior convictions. The judge noted that he had no wealth or evidence of a larger role beyond holding the drugs, and that he had mental health difficulties, limited education and employment.
