"I did it. It was me. I killed Michal": Limerick murder accused
Summary
Monika Matracka, 35, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Michal Rejmer, 38, at The Pines, Briarfield, Castletroy, Limerick, between 8 pm on 30 December and midnight on 31 December 2015. She told Gardaí she stabbed Rejmer in self‑defence. Rejmer was reported missing on 6 January 2016 after failing to attend work. Garda Pat Whelan testified that the back garden became a crime scene on 8 January when a body was found. Matracka had a long‑distance relationship with Rejmer, moved to Ireland in 2012, and they lived together from March 2014 after breaking up in January 2013. She claimed she had been asked for €300 and that Rejmer had helped her financially. After the body was discovered, she was taken to Henry Street Garda Station, where she admitted to killing Rejmer, describing the stabbing and burial. The case is before Mr Justice Paul Butler with a jury of twelve.
