Murder accused told gardai he found flatmate "almost dead"
Summary
During the seventh day of the 57‑year‑old Arnis Labunskis's trial, the court heard his garda interviews. Labunskis, who lives on Wolfe Tone Street, Limerick, was charged with murdering 39‑year‑old Dainius Burba, a Lithuanian father, in their shared flat on 21 or 22 April 2015. He told the police that he arrived home at about 11 pm after drinking in the park, found the front door unlocked, and turned on the lights. He claimed to have seen a table leg covered in blood near the stairs and, fearing an intruder, took the leg upstairs. He then found Burba with blood from his head, almost dead, and described him as roaring and calling out in Russian. Labunskis said he did not call 999 because he did not know the number. The jury will hear further details on Friday.
