Gardai found blood on walls and body on floor, murder trial hears
Summary
During the fifth day of the 57‑year‑old Arnis Labunskis's murder trial, the Central Criminal Court heard that when Gardaí arrived at the Wolfe Tone Street flat on 21 or 22 April 2015, there was blood on the walls, on a bed and a body face‑down on the floor. Labunskis, who pleaded not guilty, claimed he had come home to find his Lithuanian flatmate, 39‑year‑old Dainius Burba, seriously injured. Denis O'Loughlin, who answered a call at 5.20 am, described how he was led to the house, saw blood spatter on the stair architrave and in a bedroom, and found Burba unresponsive on the ground. Garda Martin Crowley later found a bin with a white liner and blue fabric bearing blood, and DNA from the bin's t‑shirt matched Burba's profile while Labunskis's DNA was found on the underarm area. The trial continues before Justice Deirdre McCarthy and a jury.
