Summary
Ms Joy Imasogie, 40, of Hollystown, Dublin, pleaded not guilty in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to organising the illegal entry of a Nigerian woman into Ireland, compelling her to work as a prostitute, and controlling prostitution activities between March 2006 and April 2008. In garda interviews, she denied trafficking or any involvement in prostitution. She claimed she had come to Ireland from Nigeria in 2002, was married with five children, and had never met the alleged victim before the victim arrived in Ireland. Imasogie said the victim had been having an affair with her husband for three years and wanted a child with him. She also alleged that the victim's mother used voodoo to try to separate her from her husband, but that the attempt failed. The trial is ongoing before Judge Patricia Ryan and a jury.
