Summary

In a trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, former Anglo Irish Bank director Sean FitzPatrick, aged 68, admitted that he first learned of the extent of multi‑million euro loans to himself, his wife and family members in December 2008. The loans grew from about €10 million in 2002 to €103 million in 2007. Prosecutors allege that the bank's auditors were misled by an "artificially reduced" loan figure for two weeks around the year‑end, achieved by short‑term loans from other lenders, including Irish Nationwide Building Society. FitzPatrick faces 27 offences under the 1990 Companies Act, including 22 counts of making misleading statements to auditors and five counts of furnishing false information between 2002 and 2007.
