Woman on trial for murder told gardai she acted in "self defence"
Summary
Norma Phillips, 46, a Zimbabwean national, is on trial for the murder of Stefan Neanu, 36, who was stabbed on 12 April 2015 at her former home on Phibsboro Road. She pleaded not guilty and claimed she acted in self‑defence. Prosecutor Denis Vaughan Buckley said that when Gardaí and paramedics arrived, they found Neanu injured but conscious, and that Phillips initially reported an Irish man in a balaclava had stabbed him. In later interviews she said she had defended herself. The trial is proceeding before Justice Margaret Heneghan with a jury of four men and eight women.
