Summary

The trial of former Anglo Irish Bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick, aged 68, is hearing evidence that the multi‑million euro loans he took out between 2002 and 2007 were paid by another bank before the end of Anglo Irish Bank's financial year. FitzPatrick is charged with 27 offences under the 1990 Companies Act, including 22 counts of misleading auditors and five counts of furnishing false information. Evidence from Joe McWilliams, who became lending director in 2006, shows he co‑signed several loans for FitzPatrick and family members from 2006 to 2007. The court reviewed ten credit committee application forms approving loans up to just over €100 million, and noted that by November 2007 FitzPatrick had drawn down €103 million with a limit raised to €120 million. Sean FitzPatrick pleaded not guilty.
