Jury to continue deliberating in B&B murder trial

Summary

A jury will return to the Central Criminal Court tomorrow to decide the verdict in the trial of Terence 'Terry' Connors, 42, of Drumcairn Avenue, Tallaght, Dublin 24. Connors has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaughter of Peter Conroy, 27, at Palmerstown Lodge B&B on 9 June 2015. His manslaughter plea was not accepted by the State. He also pleaded not guilty to assaulting Elaine Blunt on the same date at the same location. Justice Paul Butler explained that the jury has three possible verdicts: not guilty if he acted in self‑defence with no more force than necessary; not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter if he used more force than necessary; or guilty of murder if the prosecution proves beyond reasonable doubt that he was not acting in self‑defence and intended to kill or cause serious injury.
