James Cash, 59, was found by a judge in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to have been under the influence of alcohol and tablets when he knocked on Pamela Creighton's granny flat in Blanchardstown and attempted to attack her with a samurai sword and a kitchen knife. Cash's defence counsel, Mark Lynam, explained that the defendant suffers from severe heart disease and has had several surgeries, and that further surgery may require leg amputation due to lack of circulation. The judge, Melanie Greally, expressed surprise that a person with a serious medical condition could commit such menacing acts. The case was adjourned pending a probation services report, with sentencing scheduled for February 17 next year.
