DNA from IRA accused found in gloves, trial hears

Summary

In a Special Criminal Court hearing on 8 November 2016, DNA evidence linked Ryan Glennon, a 25‑year‑old of Macken Villas, Dublin, to a pair of gloves seized from a Courttown house in Wexford. Glennon, who pleaded not guilty to membership of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), was alleged by the prosecution to have been connected to the property where a large amount of explosives had been found. Forensic scientist Dr. Hilary Clarke compared Glennon's DNA profile to a sample taken from the gloves and found that elements of his profile could not be excluded as a major contributor. The glove sample contained DNA from two main contributors: Glennon and another man. Dr. Clarke acknowledged the possibility of DNA transfer between individuals. The prosecution closed its case, and the trial was scheduled to continue with closing speeches from both sides.
