"Brains" behind dark net drug operation loses appeal

Summary

Neil Mannion, 35, of Dublin, pleaded guilty to possessing €143,000 worth of LSD, amphetamine and cannabis resin for sale or supply at Bank House Business Centre on 5 November 2014. He was sentenced to six‑and‑a‑half years imprisonment by Judge Martin Nolan. Mannion's appeal against the sentence was dismissed by Mr Justice George Birmingham. The court noted that Gardaí had information linking a specific computer IP address to the sale and supply of drugs on the dark net. Mannion admitted his role as a vendor, packaging and sending orders to customers worldwide, including the UK, USA, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Mexico, France, Holland, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Japan, Sweden, Ukraine, Thailand, Denmark, Spain, Malaysia, Israel, Norway, Argentina, Canada, Lithuania, Finland and Belgium, as well as Ireland.
